A number of Southern Manitoba Hutterite Colonies have built their own broadband wireless network - Hutterian Broadband Network (HBN) for the purpose of implementing a Distance Education Program. Working with Advance Pro, Sony of Canada Ltd. and Informatics Consultants, a Video Conferencing system using Sony PCS-1 Internet (IP) based video conferencing units was developed. Successful test implementation of these units began in September of 2003. HBN has since expanded the program to 10 additional units.
